In accordance with our new mathematics expectations, our instructional practices need to incorporate higher level thinking, adaptive reasoning, strategic competence, conceptual understanding, problem solving, procedural fluency and productive disposition. This new approach has implications for teachers and students, and is especially challenging for English Learners.
