It is critical that students have the proper scaffolds to read, think, and talk about text independently. Explicitly teaching, modeling, and using metacognitive sentence stems through think alouds is one way to scaffold students of all language abilities. In this interactive workshop, we will use metacognition as a scaffold to read text, as well as using metacognitive stems and markers to think, take notes, and share our understanding. Metacognition & Think Alouds can be implemented right away into interactive read aloud, reader's and writer's workshop, and reading text in all content areas!
