This interactive presentation will illustrate how focused discussion of fine art images (complex text) can accelerate students' academic language across the curriculum. The presenter will share concrete examples of how this research-based approach can be used to reinforce reading language arts standards and support concepts found in STEM subjects and social studies. The session highlights how authentic oral discussion, in English and Spanish, promotes language and literacy that transfers for both languages.
