Proposition 58 put an end to Proposition 227’s restrictions on bilingual education and ushered in a new era in which multicultural education is valued and encouraged. It also provides strong new rights for parents to petition their school districts to ensure bilingual programs are available for their children. A school board member and educator, a civil rights lawyer and CABE’s General Counsel will discuss school board policies/practices, laws and parent rights in this workshop.
