This workshop presents an overview of how Sociocultural Competence, one of the three pillars of Dual Language Education, has been defined over the years; from positive attitudes, to cultural awareness to cultural identity to critical consciousness. We will review the sociocultural rubrics from Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education. Participants will use a Sociocultural Program Reflection guide to assess how the strands of the Guiding Principles can be used to assess classroom and program implementation of these goals.
