Puerto Rico has been fighting and winning against the intentions of the government to privatize schools in Puerto Rico for the past 29 years. Vouchers, intended to subsidize private entities with public funds, were declared unconstitutional. However, Law 85, approved in March 2018, seeks to dismantle public education and privatize 10% of its current public schools on the island. Teachers, parents, and students have joined forces to fight back and prevent this from happening and to save public schools.
